Yes. While anyone at all can browse and search the registry free of charge, visual representation in the ArtFile Online is just one of the benefits offered only to our members. More information about membership in the WPA can be found here.
I’m having problems uploading my images. Any suggestions? Make sure your image file is a .jpg, .jpeg, .gif, .png, or .bmp format. (.jpg recommended) The image resolution should be 72dpi, and at least 450 x 350 pixels (the database will automatically resize it for you). Large file sizes may take longer to upload. Also make sure your image files are RGB color not CMYK.
What size and type of videos can I upload to the ArtFile Online? Only your original video artworks or video documentation of your original performance art pieces may be uploaded to your portfolio page. Make sure your video file is a .mov, or .mpg format. The video should be formatted to play in a 320 x 240 sized window. Large file sizes may take longer to upload and you should limit your file size to a maximum of 8MB.
How do I change my contact information or update my portfolio page? Once you have logged in to your account, you will be taken to your Artist Management page. The left hand menu of this page will allow you to access your information, and change your contact information, password, and manage your images and statement and resume text.
Can I email or give out a link to my ArtFile Online portfolio page? Yes – when you are on your artist portfolio page, just copy and paste the web address that shows in your browser, that is your unique address that will lead directly to your ArtFile Online portfolio page!
What if I don’t have an email address? This new website REQUIRES you to have an email address to be a member of the ArtFile Online. This is also how curators and interested persons will contact you, and will be used as your username to log-in to your account. You can get a free email address at www.hotmail.com, www.yahoo.com, or www.gmail.com.
What if I don’t have access to the internet? Internet cafes and Kinkos copy shops provide pay-as-you-go internet access, and many public libraries offer free access to the internet.
What if I don’t have digital images of my artwork? There are many ways to create images of your artwork as a digital file from using a digital camera, scanning slides, to creating a CD of your artwork from 35mm film. Many digital and photographic services are available that can scan your slides – Chrome Imaging in Georgetown (www.chromeimaging.com) offers a 10% discount to card-carrying WPA members.
Why can’t I find my name when I search for it in the ArtFile Online? Type your full name in the Keyword Search field and then click GO. Make sure you have at least two images uploaded to your online portfolio, and that it has been over two weeks since you have joined the ArtFile. If you still cannot find your page, email the ArtFile Coordinator at artfile@wpadc.org
What has happened to the hard files that used to be in the ArtFile Slide and Media Registry? If you had a self-addresses stamped envelope on file with your materials, that SASE was used to send your materials back to you. The WPA also sent out a letter to all of its artist members in August 2007, inviting members to pick up their old ArtFile materials thru September 26, 2007. Unclaimed materials with no SASE were discarded after that date.
How do I remove myself from the ArtFile Online database? Artists’ portfolio pages are made inactive if their WPA membership expires. If you wish to deactivate your ArtFile Online page at any other time, you can email the ArtFile Coordinator at artfile@wpadc.org.
I am a past member of WPA. Do I already have a profile? It is possible. If you were a past member of the WPA who submitted your slides to the old ArtFile Slide and Media Registry, a profile may have been created for you. If you are a past member, email the ArtFile Administrator at artfile@wpadc.org before you sign up to find out. |
