Roudolf Kharatian is a native of Yerevan, Armenia where he studied at the Yerevan School of Fine Arts and the studio of Levon Vartanian. In America since 1991, he has exhibited in solo shows in Washington, DC, New York and Montreal. His works have also been presented in group and juried exhibitions throughout the United Sates, and internationally in Italy, Russia, India and Egypt. Kharatian’s works are in private collections in the United States, Canada, France, Great Britain, South Africa and Armenia. His paintings are featured on a selection of Armenian fine wines distributed in the United States.
With a sparkling palette glowing with dominant gold and yellow tones, Kharatian’s paintings are frequently filled with allusions to music as well as with formal metaphors of the human body in motion. His style is fundamentally abstract, in large part based on a geometric simplification of natural form combined with passages of greater description. He transmits in his colorful works his fascination for sculptural masses and flowing movement.
“I use color, form and composition to convey a sense of hope and a feeling of love that transcend the daily hustle and bustle of our material world, to create that which is universal and timeless.” |
